Buying or selling a house is often described as one of the three most stressful things you can do in your life - but it doesn’t have to be that way. Richard Wollacott is a Solicitor at Bingham law firm Fraser Brown and can provide advice and assistance on all aspects of moving home, from surveys, title deeds and leases to the new Home Information Pack (HIP) legislation.
“The compulsory HIP scheme, extended to all properties from December 14, has been met with much confusion by many homeowners, but it is actually intended to make things much simpler. Designed to speed up the house-buying process, it gives potential buyers more of the information they need upfront.
“The packs contain a home’s title deeds, local and drainage searches and an energy performance certificate. Although they cost around £300 - £500 each to compile, we expect that the majority of people will be the same or better off than previously. While the costs associated with selling may have risen, the costs linked to purchasing a property have dropped – and first time buyers and others without a property to sell could find themselves better off altogether.”
As one of the regions longest established firms of solicitors, Fraser Brown is one of the few solicitors to successfully provide HIPs for both vendors and estate agents.
