The 2019 Crime Report and Guidance has just been released by the Association of Convenience Stores.
It is an important tool in highlighting the cost and impact of crimes committed against
the convenience sector when talking to Government and the police.
Key findings from the report include:
- The total cost of crime over the last year was £246m
- The three biggest concerns for retailers are violence against staff, theft by customers and verbal abuse against staff
- The report estimates that there were almost 10,000 incident of violence in the sector over the last twelve months
- Of crimes committed where a weapon was present, the most commonly used weapon was a knife (68% of incidents)
