Nottingham host first Property Litigation Association event in the East Midlands

Barristers from Hardwicke Chambers yesterday hosted the first East Midlands Property Litigation Association (PLA) event on Thursday 9th November, which was attended by over 30 of the region’s top property litigators.

The PLA is an organisation for professionals specialising in all aspects of commercial, residential and agricultural property litigation.

The event, which was held at The Herbert Kilpin in Nottingham, brought together property litigation professionals from across Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.

The sold-out event was chaired by John De Waal QC from Hardwicke Chambers, accompanied by his colleagues, Monty Palfrey, Simon Allison and Rupert Cohern, who discussed hot topics within the industry and provided updates on modification and release of restrictive covenants, and Tort Interference with Goods Act Notices.

This was the first PLA meeting to ever be held in Nottingham, with the closest events previously taking place in the Midlands.

John De Waal QC, who made the journey from London with colleagues especially for the event, was impressed with the response the event received:

“The event provided a great space and opportunity for some of the region’s top property litigators to come together. We welcomed this opportunity to speak to them about a variety of very current and pressing legal topics.

“We were pleased to see such a fantastic turn out in what looks to be a very positive addition under the PLA banner. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and hope to see more events like this coming out of the region.”

Delegates from Browne Jacobson, Smith Partnership, Howes Percival, Geldards, Fraser Brown Solicitors, Actons, M & S Leicestershire, and Freeths and Nelsons Solicitors, were in attendance. Nottingham-based Fraser Brown Solicitors organised the event, working with Freeths and Browne Jacobson to make the evening possible.

Don Peel, partner at Fraser Brown Solicitors, believes the event was a long time coming:

“Increasingly, businesses are looking further afield for their legal service providers, and more regions are experiencing this.  One of our aims in extending the PLA to the East Midlands was to recognise the breadth of quality and talented property litigators we have to offer.

“The events also serve to provide quality training in line with PLA principles, and having Hardwicke make the journey made it a particularly special launch. We had a great turnout, and this event will be just one of many in our efforts to put Nottingham and the East Midlands on the map.”

The evening concluded with tapas, drinks and networking. The event is set to be one of many series of events for PLA East Midlands.
