County and High Court Proceedings
A small claims court handles debts up to £3,000. Debts up to £15,000 are handled by the County Court, with over £15,000 debts handled by the High Court.
Unless your claim is disputed, you will not have to attend the County Court and judgment can be obtained by completing relevant paperwork. If a case is contested, there are additional professional fees that will be included, but we can explain all this in more detail so you are fully aware of the costs before taking action.
With High Court proceedings, a summons must be sent to the court along with the applicable payment amount. If the debtor fails to respond after 14 days, then a judgment can be obtained. As with the County Court, you will not usually need to attend court, but we can explain everything in greater detail.
