What is a Notary Public
The notary public deals with all of the matters and enquiries relating to other jurisdictions outside of England & Wales. It is one of the oldest branches of the legal profession in England and as such carries certain credibility with it.
As a qualified notary public, Diana is a public officer constituted by law to serve the public in non-contentious matters usually concerned with estates, deeds, powers of attorney, and foreign and international business.
Diana"s main functions are to administer oaths and affirmations, take affidavits and statutory declarations, witness and authenticate the execution of certain classes of documents, take acknowledgements of deeds and other conveyances, protest notes and bills of exchange, provide notice of foreign drafts, prepare marine protests in cases of damage, provide exemplifications and notarial copies, prepare and witness powers of attorney, witness documents relating to insurance claims in England & Wales and abroad and perform certain other official acts depending on the jurisdiction. Any such act is known as notarisation legislation.
Diana also deals with legislation of such documents for insertion of apostille by sending them to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on your behalf. Legislation is charged on a per document fee basis and there charges are set by the FCO on a yearly basis (as at January 2011 the fee is £28.80 per document). We will advise you of these fees at the time of your enquiry.
Fees vary due to the versatility of documents for use in other jurisdiction and we will discuss our fees with you prior to your engagement with us. Fees will exclude VAT and any additional charges such as postage costs and legislation cost will be charged separately. Again, we will discuss these with you prior to our engagement.
Fraser Brown are also registered with the Notaries Society to provide our notarial services in England & Wales. Fraser Brown deal with documents for use in England & Wales and also other jurisdictions in Europe, the USA, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, Middle East, far Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
