Right to buy
The Right to Buy scheme allows most council tenants to buy their council home at a discount. You may qualify for this if:
- It is your only or main home
- It is self-contained
- You are a secure tenant
- You have had a public sector landlord for 5 years (eg. council, housing association or NHS). The 5 years do not need to be consecutive.
If you sell your home within 10 years of buying it through Right to Buy, you must first offer it to either your old landlord or another social landlord in the area.
